SE Log Cabins and Homes

So you've decided that the time is right to buy that log cabin you've always promised yourself. But do you go for a modern and contemporary flat log profile, or the more traditional aesthetics of the round log style?

This is a discussion that could take many hours... Or you may have no doubt what so ever - it's flat log for you!

In many cases, our customers decide on the log profile depending on the location of the building.

As a general rule of thumb, the flat log style is preferred when constructing in a more urban or residential setting, and the round log approach is often adopted when building in a more landscaped or forested environment.

Of course there are no hard and fast rules, and at the end of the day it is down to personal taste. If your idea of a log cabin is the traditional cabin in the mountains idyll, then no amount of discussion will persuade you otherwise - round log it is!

Whatever your decision, some of the most important factors to consider are:

  1. The quality of the timber used - only the highest grade slow grown dense logs will provide resilience and thermal efficiency.
  2. The preparation of the logs during manufacture - timber which is dried too quickly, or isn't dried at all, will throw up all sorts of structural problems down the line.
  3. The build methods used during construction - here, the traditional techniques that we use result in structures of integrity and longevity.

So, be it round or flat, we are proud to say, that at South East Log Cabins & Homes, we can cater for you with our Pinewood Lodges range.
